of UUs from the Southwestern Conference, the Southern Region and all
around the country have responded with abundant
and characteristic generosity to the request for funds to help victims
of the tornado that devastated Moore, OK, on May 20. The first gifts
arrived within 20 minutes of the announcement that the Southern Region
would receive gifts for the whole country, and
donations have continued to pour in.
As you might imagine, there were no quick decisions about how the funds would be used, other than the basic intention to
help victims of the storm. Since that initial announcement, First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City
has stepped forward, and will use our collective gifts to provide relief
for undocumented immigrants, a special class of storm victims. First
Unitarian Church is working with St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church,
and together they have begun to assess the needs
of individual families.
If you want to contribute to this worthy cause, please use First Unitarian Church's PayPal link to make a donation (a preference that will minimize the church's administrative work),
or you may mail a check, made payable to First Unitarian Church with "Standing on the Side of Love" on the memo line, to:
First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City 600 NW 13th St Oklahoma City, OK 73103.
Funds that have been - and will be - sent to Orlando and/or Charlotte will be paid to First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma
City to be used as indicated above.
